John Grillos brings to Stony Hill decades of experience as a Venture Capital investor and C -suite operator. He managed four venture capital firms (founded two of them) with combined capital under management exceeding $500 million. As a lead investor and/or CEO he successfully managed nine companies through periods of disruption in their growth. He has been a highly influential director of 26 for-profit (private and public) and non-profit organizations. His efforts have helped create billions of dollars in market value and thousands of jobs. He has been on the buy and sell side of dozens of transactions including several IPOs.
His industry focus is on lower middle market companies with B-to-B business models. His involvement with clients often starts long before the client engages in a transaction. His early role is to act as a coach, helping companies prepare for a transaction by optimizing those aspects of their business that will maximize the value of the company at the time of a transaction.
He holds an MBA from the University of Chicago and a BS from Illinois Institute of Technology. He served honorably in the USMC. He has guest lectured at the University of Chicago, Illinois Institute of Technology, Santa Clara University and the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School of Management extension in San Francisco.
